Good Old Days we never experienced but will always stay in our heart

The picture of late Ustaz KRS Muhammad Thani Bin Sha'aban

Kadet Remaja Sekolah (KRS) was founded by Muhammad Thani Bin Sha'aban at Sekolah Menengah Raja Abdullah, Jalan Kepong, Kuala Lumpur on 27 Jun 1987. Initially, it was known as Kadet Putera Islam Malaysia when it was first established. Kadet Putera Islam Malaysia (KPIM) which was a uniform body ONLY for Persatuan Pelajar-pelajar Islam SMRA (PERWIRA) consisted of about 20 members of first formers and second formers. The purpose of establishment was to produce excellent students who are BERILMU,BERIMAN and BERAMAL. Apart from that, it also meant to inculcate good values and personalities like patriotism, morality and competent in students, similar to the effort and desire to fulfill the demand of Falsafah Pendidikan Negara to achieve our nation's insight or simply Wawasan 2020.

KPIM was sheltered under Unit Pendidikan Islam Jabatan Pendidikan Wilayah. Every activities it carried out was based on the concept "ISLAM SEBAGAI CARA KEHIDUPAN" which means Islam as a way of life (AD-DEEN).

Since 1989, several schools in federal territories had established KPIM in their school. Since 1993, a total of 53 secondary schools in Malaysia had officially established KPIM.The effort of official establishment was sheltered under Education Ministry started from 10 Ogos 1993 and a formal meeting with YB Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Wan Mohd Zahid b. Wan Mohd Nordin, who was Director general of Malaysian Education on 13 September 1993.Thesis about KPIM was presented to him in the meeting. As a result, a committee group is formed to prepare proposal and cabinet paper. After that, the committee group proposed a change in the name that was KADET PUTERA-PUTERI ISLAM (KPIM).

However, its name was changed to Kadet Remaja Islam (KRIS). Meanwhile, a briefing which was chaired by YB Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Wan Mohd Zahid was given to the directors of Education Ministry on October 1993. Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Wan Mohd Zahid made a decision to change the name again to Kadet Remaja Sekolah so that non-Islam members also could be recruited regardless of genders and religions.

National lauching ceremony of Kadet Remaja Sekolah was done on 20 June 1995 (21 Muharram 1416) by Yang Berhormat Dato' Seri Mohd Najib Tun Hj. Abdul Razak, Malaysian Education Minister at Sekolah Menengah Raja Abdullah, Jalan Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.(where it all began) A total of 300 teachers were trained as the KRS coaches at states level. Since then, many schools began to bring in this youth organisation as they see the importance of uniform unit in bringing up the student’s discipline. KRS unit is most probably formed when a new school is established or brought in by the administrator of the schools.
